Carob comes from the tree called locust-tree or simply carob tree, in the pea family.
The carob tree grows in the region of the Mediterranean Sea, like the south of Europe, the north of Africa, and the middle-east. The carob comes from the pods of the tree. Carob has a sweet caramel-like taste that resembles cocoa, but is somewhat different. Carob is rich in fibers and minerals, especially iron and calcium.
You can use carob to give a subtle chocolate taste to your meal or dessert. Stir for example some carob through some oatmeal, yoghurt or smoothies. You can also use it to make delicious muffins or biscuits.
We have published the recipe of a carob and sweet potato cake on our site.
