Konkoe Toure Gbeli from Guinea

Konkoe Toure Gbeli is a dish in sauce that you normally eat very spicy, but  you can make it as spicy as you want by using less or more pepper.

For 4 persons:


  1. Soak the catfish pieces in luke water during 6 hours.
  2. Boil the catfish pieces in water during 20 mins. Throw away the water.
  3. In the meantime, peel and cut the onions and garlic in small pieces and put them in a blender.
  4. Optional: add the half yellow chili pepper in the blender.
  5. Add the peeled tomatoes and the shrimp cube, blend everything until you get a smooth mixture.
  6. Put this mixture in a saucepan, together with the catfish, and let it cook.
  7. In the meantime, you can prepare the vegetables. Peel and cut the potatoes in 4 pieces. Rinse the African aubergines. Cut the  head and tail of the 12 fresh okras. Cut 2 of the okras in small pieces.
  8. Cook the rice. Cook the 2 cut in pieces okras 5 mins in water, drain them and mix them with the cooked rice.
  9. Add all vegetables in the saucepan with the tomato sauce and place the lid on the pan. Lower the heat.
  10. Cook for another 10 mins. When the potatoes are cooked, add salt and zomi.
  11. Let it cook for a few minutes while stirring. Your dish is ready !
